Damian Radcliffe, policy manager at Ofcom, has put together a rather brilliant update on hyperlocal(ism) on Slideshare. Much of it concerns the recent debate stirred up by Eric Pickles when he urged councils to allow ‘citizen journalists’ into town halls and video meetings.
It’s particularly nice that he’s also included the wise words of Catherine Howe, Public-i’s chief executive, who argues here that it’s essential for councils to ensure they have a full digital record of their democratic process – and don’t just leave the recording and dissemination of council meeting content to the public.
We’ll be picking over quite a few of these issues at our Public-i user seminar on the 17th of May, entitled Citizen Journalism – where both Nick Booth (he of Podnosh fame) and Carl Whistlecraft from Kirklees Council will be talking.
Here’s the Slideshare in all its glory for your enjoyment:-
