We were really chuffed to have taken part in Cheshire West and Chester‘s fantastic Webcasting Open Day yesterday. It was planned to help councils and other organisations interested in webcasting learn more about how it works and why it can be so vital to communication and engagement, delivered by those who know the most: experienced users.
And, from the reports I’ve heard already, the day didn’t disappoint. We can only pass on our gratitude to those who worked hard to make it such a success, particularly Pam Bradley, Damian Beaumont, David Jones, Mike Jones and quite a few others.
As I explained in a post we wrote to promote the event, Cheshire West and Chester is one of our most innovative clients, in terms of the way the whole council looks to use webcasting, leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of value from the system.
The day included a number of presentations, both on the way that webcasting works (the practical elements of using a webcasting system) and how it can be part of an overall communication and engagement strategy. Our very own Catherine Howe was also involved, delivering a presentation on the Networked Councillors project that establishes a vision for how elected members can become a part of the networked world that we are seeing established by the adoption of social media and digital technology.
But the heart of the day was from the perspective of users – about why webcasting works, why it delivers value and what it can mean in light of the technological changes we’ve seen in recent years.
I guess it would have been a bit weird if we hadn’t webcast the event – and you can watch the day in full – using index points, slides and other material – here. I thought we should also just include one section here, to give you an impression of the flavour of the day and emphasise some of the points above, too.
Mike Jones, the leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, was among the speakers on the day and delivered a great rundown on why the council opted for webcasting and
how it has proved its value to him and to others. It’s a good place to start!
